Talking Stick 1997
An elder storyteller from the Wampanog tribe came to my daughter's
school. As well as incredible stories, he has a beautiful 'talking
stick'. A talking stick is passed in a meeting and the person with
the stick has the right to talk; more than that, the right to be heard.
I asked him if it would be improper if I made a talking stick and he said
that it would be fine. He said white men needed talking sticks since
they don't listen to each other very well. This was one of my efforts.
